Some News About Our Club Screenings.

If you follow us in any of our social worlds you’ll have noticed there are going to be a few changes to our Club Screenings. Below James, the chief organiser of these screenings, explains what these changes are & gives us the heads up re: the details of the next few months screenings.

Just a brief update on what is happening in the next few months with our regular Free Bristol Silents Club Screenings.

We’re happy to say that the Screenings are most certainly here to stay. Since the re-establishment of these smaller events back in 2010 we have been able to find a regular base for all of us to meet in, as well as in which to introduce new members to Bristol Silents.

On top of that, we have also been able to screen all sorts of different films from the silent era. British, German, Swedish, Norwegian and American are all the many different countries which some of these films have come from. We have also celebrated the classic icons of the silent era, William S Hart, Greta Garbo, Rudolph Valentino have all been major highlights for us over the past two years.

However, there are a few changes which we have had to make to carry on.

First news is that we’re having to change of dates for already announced screenings. Sadly, due to certain major sports events such as Euro 2012 and the London 2012 Olympics we have had to move the future Club Screenings to different dates.

So please find brand new dates for the next two Club Screenings below:

Tuesday 5th June / Josef Von Stronberg Night intro by Bristol Silents’ Mark Fuller.
(First Tuesday of June due to the European Championships the following week).

Tuesday 10th July / The Italian (1915) intro by BAFTA Award Winning Editor Don Fairservice.

As you will have noticed as well, Tuesday’s is now our new Wednesday’s. This is the other major change, due to the fact that the bar behind the King’s Arms Cinema Room is getting more and more busy due to Wednesday sport matches up on the Downs, we thought it best to move the days as well now. So, from now on, all our Club Screenings for the rest of 2012 will take place on the second Tuesday evenings of every month (if not stated otherwise).

However, everything else is the same, the venue will be the same, the time (7:30pm) will be the same and the admission will stay Free as well.

I’m happy to say as well I can give you an idea what we have coming up in the next few months, please note that the Club Screening for October and November are later dates due to the fact of the Giornate Del Cinema Muto in Italy (as usual, a lot of us are going)…

Tuesday 14th August / Theda Bara Night

Tuesday 11th September / Greta Garbo Night intro by Aardman Animations Tom Vincent.

Tuesday 23rd October / The Last Days of Pomepii intro by Dr Pantelis Michelakis (Bristol Uni).

Tuesday 20nd November / The Great War on Film intro TBC.

For now then, I shall leave you and get back to the dark world of silent film.

    Hi Guys,
Sadly we might need to change the Garbo Night to something else. Will keep you posted.
    Cheers
